“The Model T for the 21st century” was the foundation for the story of the Model U. The goal was to express Ford’s strategy of pursuing sustainable automotive technologies without compromising customer expectations of personal mobility. A partnership between Ford’s Brand Imaging Group, Research & Advanced Engineering and William McDonough of MBDC, helped to materialize a car that is designed to be “good to you and good for the world.” Seeing the potential of future customers within the youth market, a parallel lifestyle concept brand “U” was developed to connect with this elusive group.
